Here we go.
Moses had anger management issues.
On any good day, we’re told that Moses was the most humble of the humble. Regularly, he accepted criticism by throwing himself onto his face, but a few times he simply lost control and … let loose.
- He broke the first set of tablets Hashem gave Moses on Sinai.
- He struck a rock with his staff in order to water the thirsty multitudes.
- And when the army returned from defeating the Midianites, Moses lost his temper when he found out his troops hadn’t killed the women and children. (And keep in mind that Moses was married to a Midianite and had a great relationship with his father-in-law, a leader of the Midianites.)
What makes these three examples notable is that they were the exception, not the rule. And this is one of the reasons why Moses stays in as the hero of the story.
I think we can give Moses a lot of credit for losing his temper only a handful of times. He was putting up with a lot. The Egyptians gave him a hard time but the Israelites gave him an even harder time. I’m surprised the word “patient” doesn’t come up when we read about Moses.
Among other things I pray for, for myself, I pray for patience. The world seems so crippled now and needs so much help, I pray for patience that the world will be healed in time. And I pray not to lose my temper waiting for that outcome.
And may it be for all of us a blessing.
See you tonight!
Mit vareme grusn,
(With warm regards,)
All my love,
brian.
