Here we go.
Lag B’Omer (the Jewish holy day today) is associated with a lot of different traditions I’ve written about before but perhaps the most fun of all the traditions is the bonfire. A bonfire spills light everywhere.
How it all started, maybe.
Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, a famous Torah scholar, died on Lag B’Omer and is remembered through the bonfires. Why? Because R. Yochai helped bring the light of Torah into the world. There are several legends about R. Shimon. One legend I like is that, as R. Shimon lay dying, he was revealing the secrets of Torah and that the sun waited to set until the rabbi was finished.
There are lots of other legends about Lag B’Omer, but the facts are at the end of the Omer is Shavuot, when Hashem gave us Torah. It’s a holiday that’s very special to me as Torah is central to my life. It is the light I use to find my way from one day to another.
And may it be for all of us a blessing.
See you tonight!
Mit vareme grusn,
(With warm regards,)
All my love,
brian.
